Z and Z DX lenses on Z bodies — native mount
Nikon Z and Z DX (APS-C) lenses mount directly on Z-mount bodies with no adapter. What changes across sensor sizes: full-frame Z glass on DX bodies, and DX lenses on full-frame bodies (fixed auto crop). Every statement cited.
Scope of the data
The Z-native corridor covers 42 Z full-frame lenses and 7 Z DX lenses (Nikon's APS-C-format Z line) on 9 full-frame + 4 APS-C Z-mount bodies. Every Z lens mounts on every Z body — no adapter sits in the signal path, and the verdict badge reads Native for the whole corridor.
What changes with sensor size
Mounting is always native; coverage depends on the pairing:
- Z full-frame lens on any body — the image circle covers the sensor, full-frame or DX. On a DX body the field of view is simply narrower (the body's 1.5x factor).
- Z DX lens on a DX body — its home format; full native coverage.
- Z DX lens on a full-frame body — the lens projects a DX (APS-C) image circle, so the camera records in the central crop area — and Nikon locks that choice.
The DX-based format is selected automatically on FX bodies — there is no full-frame mode to switch to with a DX lens attached (stills and video alike).

Stabilization
Stabilization rows come from the lens and body data, not from a blanket rule: a Z lens with VR reports Lens VR active, and on bodies with in-body stabilization (all full-frame Z bodies in the dataset) the tool reports sensor-shift VR when the lens has none. Nothing here is estimated — each row cites its source.
